Wyoming Triple Möbius

$550.00

“Wyoming Triple Möbius” is carved from a Wyoming Olive Nephrite Jade with a high satin finish and hand-carved accent bead. Matching slider beads for adjusting length of the brown nylon cord.

Note from the Artist: The Möbius strip or Möbius band is “a surface with only one side and only one boundary. The Möbius strip has the mathematical property of being unorientable. It can be realized as a ruled surface,” according to Wikipedia. One can assume many meanings from the möbius: the “twists and turns of life”, the concept of infinity or limitlessness, the solar cycles - the list goes on and on. What makes the möbius such a magnificent design for jade is that it can be carved extremely thin with delicate movement, leaving the structure in the curves. For example, one can achieve a wall just 1mm thick on the flat planes. When these designs are held to a light, they will glow as the light plays on the curves and planes.

This jade is a Guatemalan blue jadeite. It is said by pre-Columbian jade experts that jadeite was carved and appreciated long before the voyage and arrival of Columbus in 1492. Guatemalan jadeite has only been rediscovered in 1974 after the collapse of the pre-Columbian cultures. Now Guatemala is making a name for itself as one of the world’s most beautiful and fine-grained jadeites; this beautiful blue included.
